Energy Efficient Piggies
Working with Sean Cope Pictures and HERO Marketing I got a taste of what it’s like to create a television broadcast advertisement. For this video, I had the challenge of remaining within brand guidelines as well as working within the 60 second window. This commercial aired in three cities in both Spanish and English. Each city had slightly different content and VO which gave each video its own unique set of obstacles.
I had to tame my instinct to make animations wild and creative as well as design everything within a 4:3 aspect ratio. Up until this point, I had only designed for web which afforded me the freedom to take as long as I want and design within the full HD workspace.
My biggest challenge was making everything fit in 60 seconds. When VO was approved I had to retime a lot of my animation. I’m still learning the best way to organize my files to make them as flexible and editable as possible. A close second place for biggest challenge was working with Spanish captions and VO. That was way harder than I imagined.
Like every new experience, getting feedback from both the marketing team and the client, Ygrene, was a unique challenge that was both frustrating and eyeopening. I now have a better understanding of navigating feedback from two sources, efficiently communicating important information, and my role as a motion graphics designer.
